Disneyland Stroller Rules: What Families Need to Know Before Their Visit

A stroller can be one of the most useful items you'll bring to Disneyland Resort. While Disneyland is smaller than Walt Disney World, families are often surprised by how much walking they still do during a typical park day.

Between Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and the walk to and from parking areas or hotels, those steps add up quickly.

Before you pack a stroller for your trip, here's what you need to know about Disneyland's stroller policies, transportation rules, and practical tips for navigating the parks.

Do You Need a Stroller at Disneyland?

Many parents debate whether it's worth bringing a stroller, especially if their child no longer uses one at home.

For many families, the answer is yes.

Even confident walkers can become tired after a full day in the parks. A stroller gives children a place to rest and provides convenient storage for all the things that seem to multiply throughout the day:

  • Water bottles

  • Snacks

  • Jackets

  • Souvenirs

  • Sunscreen

  • Ponchos

  • Portable chargers

It can also provide younger children with a familiar place to relax when the parks become crowded or overstimulating.

Disneyland's Stroller Size Requirements

Disneyland has strict stroller size limits.

All strollers must be no larger than:

  • 31 inches (79 cm) wide

  • 52 inches (132 cm) long

Most standard single and double strollers fit within these measurements, but oversized models may not.

It's a good idea to verify your stroller's dimensions before leaving home, especially if you use a larger jogging stroller or specialty model.

Are Double Strollers Allowed?

Yes.

Both tandem and side-by-side double strollers are permitted, provided they remain within Disneyland's size requirements.

Many families visiting with multiple young children find double strollers especially helpful during longer park days.

Are Stroller Wagons Allowed?

No.

Disneyland does not permit wagon-style strollers or traditional wagons, regardless of their size.

Guests arriving with a stroller wagon will be asked to leave it outside the parks.

If your child requires special accommodations, Disney's Accessibility Services team can provide guidance on available options.

Bring Your Own Stroller or Rent One?

Both options have advantages.

Bringing Your Own

Many families prefer bringing a stroller from home because:

  • It's familiar to their child

  • It can be used throughout the entire vacation

  • It works during airport travel

  • It may be more comfortable than rental options

For younger children, bringing your own stroller is often the best choice. Many personal strollers recline for naps and provide better shade than rental models.

Renting a Disneyland Stroller

Disneyland offers stroller rentals near the park entrances.

Renting can be convenient if you don't want to travel with extra equipment, but there are a few limitations.

Disney's rental strollers:

  • Cannot be taken back to your hotel

  • Cannot be used on parking trams or buses

  • Are only available within Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney

  • Do not recline

Because of these restrictions, many families prefer to bring their own stroller or rent from an outside company that delivers to local hotels.

Navigating Security with a Stroller

All guests pass through security before entering Disneyland Resort.

Security personnel may inspect stroller storage compartments, attached bags, and baskets.

Keeping your stroller organized can help speed up the process and make entering the parks easier.

If possible, avoid overpacking the stroller with loose items that may need to be examined individually.

Stroller Parking at Disneyland

Throughout Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, you'll find designated stroller parking areas near most attractions.

Using these areas is important because strollers left in walkways, near benches, or in front of attraction entrances will likely be moved.

In fact, even properly parked strollers are often relocated by Cast Members throughout the day as they reorganize parking areas and manage guest traffic.

If you return and don't immediately see your stroller, don't panic. It's usually nearby.

Make Your Stroller Easy to Spot

Many strollers look nearly identical.

Consider adding a simple identifier such as:

  • A brightly colored ribbon

  • A bandana

  • A luggage tag

  • A colorful stroller clip

These small additions can save a surprising amount of time when searching through hundreds of parked strollers.

Some families also take a photo of their stroller at the beginning of the day so they can quickly identify it if needed.

Disneyland Railroad and Strollers

One Disneyland transportation detail many first-time visitors overlook involves the Disneyland Railroad.

If you're using a personal stroller that folds, you can bring it aboard the train.

However, Disneyland rental strollers do not fold and cannot be taken on the railroad.

Guests using rental strollers will need to park them before boarding and return to retrieve them afterward.

Strollers and Disneyland Transportation

When using Disneyland transportation, there are a few additional rules to keep in mind.

Parking Trams

Children must be removed from strollers before boarding parking trams.

Rental strollers are not permitted on trams at all.

Escalators

Strollers are not allowed on escalators.

Guests should use elevators or ramps whenever available.

Buses

If you're using a hotel shuttle or bus service, be prepared to fold your stroller before boarding.

Compact strollers are often much easier to manage when using transportation throughout your trip.

Additional Disneyland Stroller Rules

Disneyland asks guests to follow several additional guidelines:

  • Do not leave valuables in unattended strollers.

  • Cast Members may move strollers when necessary.

  • Children must be removed from strollers when boarding parking trams.

  • Use elevators and ramps instead of escalators.

  • Follow all designated stroller parking instructions throughout the parks.

Final Thoughts

A stroller can make a Disneyland vacation significantly more comfortable for families with young children. Whether you bring your own or choose to rent one, understanding Disneyland's stroller policies ahead of time can help you avoid unnecessary stress during your visit.

Before your trip, remember to:

  • Check your stroller's dimensions

  • Leave stroller wagons at home

  • Label your stroller so it's easy to identify

  • Use designated stroller parking areas

  • Be prepared for Cast Members to relocate parked strollers

  • Understand the transportation rules before you arrive

A little preparation goes a long way toward making your Disneyland vacation smoother, easier, and more enjoyable for the whole family.
